Warmer weather is on its way. In some parts of the country, it’s already here. This is the time of year that we can start putting away all of the thick, heavy sweaters and make room for lighter, airier clothing. Although most of us love the warmer weather and begin to look forward to time at the pool and our upcoming beach vacations, some of us may, instead, take this time to begin the process of self-loathing because our body does not conform to what we see in magazines or even, where we may have been a few years ago.

It’s very easy to fall victim to the latest fashion magazine articles about “Fashion Trends That Are ‘In’ This Year,” “The Best Swimsuits to Flatter Your Figure,” and the all-time favorite, “How to Lose Weight Just in Time for Summer.” All of these messages are enough to make you feel like you are not at your best until you follow the advice given by a random personal product brand or the latest diet trend company trying to get a portion of your hard-earned money.

However, I’ve got a great tip for you that won’t even cost you a dime. Go into your bathroom, stare at your reflection in the mirror, and tell yourself that you are smart, you are beautiful, and you are enough. No, you may not have the body of a Victoria’s Secret or Chippendales model. But think about it. How many people actually do? You are beautiful, no matter what those magazine headlines may try to tell you. Know that you are “enough.”

Know that there is no one else on this planet that has lived through the same experiences you have, education, nor have the same gifts, talents, or perspective that you have.  So rather than compare yourself to others, accept yourself–fully and authentically.

Love your body by taking care of it with proper nutrition and exercise. Love yourself by speaking words of love and encouragement to yourself, and also by receiving the love and encouragement from those around you.
