This past week, we celebrated Easter. A time where most Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus the Christ. In reflecting on the idea of resurrection, I began to think about what we often allow to die in our own lives due to neglect or negative thought patterns.
When we’re young, we have a myriad of ideas and dreams that we want to accomplish in our lives. As we grow older, some of those ideas are cast aside as we begin to learn more about ourselves, our capabilities, and where we want to devote our time. However, sometimes, we let go of those dreams because we did not receive the support that we thought we would get in pursuing those dreams.
But where do dreams go when we leave them behind? Do they ever really go away? Do they ever really die? What dream have you had that you still think about to this day? If money, time, or responsibilities were not an issue, what would you be doing right now? While it’s true that there may be some dreams that you may not be able to accomplish at this particular point in your life, that doesn’t mean that the dream cannot be resurrected at a later point in your life.
A friend of mine has always wanted to be an actor. This was her dream since she was a child. She wasn’t focused on being famous, she just enjoyed the idea of acting. Because she went to school for business, she never thought that she would ever find the time to try out for a play or audition for a show or film.
Eventually, my friend grew tired of the corporate world and decided to pursue her passion. In doing so, she began taking acting classes, took on extra and stand-in roles to gain on-set experience, and began auditioning for many well-known films and television shows.
Although she hadn’t yet booked one of these main roles, she impressed a few casting agents enough that they would request her by name for certain roles. And, she did end up impressing a young start-up company enough to where she has now played the role in a couple of their short films, with the promise of more work to come. My friend had told me that, because she was getting started later in life, she wasn’t quite sure that she could break into acting. She may not be famous, but she still enjoys the art and loves and appreciates the opportunity whenever it comes her way.
If you have a dream that is still burning in your heart, take some time to figure out how you can make this dream a reality, even if it’s just on a small scale. If the dream is what truly makes you happy, the magnitude of the dream is inconsequential. As long as you follow your passion, you can leave your mark on this world, knowing that you were able to resurrect and accomplish your dream.
