My Journey Towards the Light

Now that we’re well into the fall season, you may be noticing the gradual decreasing of daylight hours. While this natural change brings with it beautiful foliage changes and cooler temperatures, it can also serve as a gentle reminder the rhythms of nature, and more specifically, of circadian rhythm—the internal clock that regulates our sleep-wake cycle and which significantly impacts our overall health.

You may be wondering why I’m talking about circadian rhythm especially since you’re probably more familiar with my journey of healing from ovarian cancer and the steps that I took to heal using nutrition, exercise, emotional, and spiritual wellness.  Ever since my miraculous recovery out of hospice after being given just 4 weeks to live, I knew that God’s grace was more than just for me.  Feeling inspired, I traveled extensively, speaking at conferences and sharing my message of hope with anyone struggling with a chronic health conditions.

However, I was injured by an osteopathic manipulation to my ribs during that fifth year, where, after I speaking at some of the conferences, I would repeatedly end up being hospitalized.  Eventually, I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, aka POTS, after having been injured

Six months following this injury, I became very sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) when I noticed pain that would travel from my fingers up both arms where I could feel the electricity come out through my right foot.  My symptoms continued to worsen where I couldn’t go outside because lights were too bright and sounds were too loud.  Even eating and drinking just water would trigger sudden spikes in my blood pressure and heart rate, making it difficult for me to breathe.  Because of this, I lost 11 pounds within one month.  My blood pressure, which had always typically been on the lower side like, 90/60, suddenly would shoot up to 181/116 and my resting heart rate at 150 bpm for no reason. This was not sustainable.

As time went on, I couldn’t even sit upright because it literally felt as if my heart would pound right out of my chest.  By this time, after having consulted with neurologists, cardiologists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and energy healers, I couldn’t stand up straight.  I was crawling in my house, feeling like I was going to pass out every few minutes throughout each day.

Then, I was no longer able to sleep, even for a minute every night for over two weeks.  At this point, I felt like I couldn’t make it as my entire nervous system was on edge.  Similar to how I prayed while in the hospital with cancer, I sought and asked God to show me what I needed to do to be able to recover from this dire condition.  I then felt led to contact Dr. Jack Kruse, a neurosurgeon, who, spoke in a language that I could understand and relate to as a physicist, because he spoke in terms of electrons and protons.  He helped me to make the connection between sunlight, or the lack thereof, and my health.  I learned about genetic haplotype and how that would determine how much UV light you would need from the sun to be able to make Vitamin D.  He explained how the work I did in the military with lasers exposed me to radio frequencies which, combined with being mostly indoors and getting very little natural sunlight, over several decades, contributed not only to my getting cancer, but also all the others issues I had leading up to the cancer, which included Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and now, POTS.

Mexico

Then, what he shared with me next, confirmed and validated my personal sentiment that I wasn’t going to make it much longer in this condition.  He said, “I’m really concerned about your survival.  You don’t have a lot of time left.  You need to travel to Mexico, like next week.”

You may be wondering what Mexico has to do with anything related to health, but what I came to learn was that the closer we are to the equator, the higher the ultraviolet (UV) index from the sun.  Dr. Kruse explained to me that while I was born in California, because my ancestors were originally from Asia, the UV index exposure there was higher and best suited for someone with my genetic haplotype, as compared with the UV index California, which was lower.  The lack of UV light exposure led to my being chronically low in Vitamin D, which combined, with the lack of sunlight to make Vitamin D as well as my melatonin production, were all factors leading to practically every major health issue I had, including cancer.

He continued to explain that it was important to build back up my “redox,” which is short for reduction-oxidation potential.  A simple way of understanding redox is that it’s the net negative charge in your body.  In other words, it’s the amount of electrons that you have available in your body to do many of the functions in your body.  For example, the Electron Transport Chain within the inner mitochondrial membrane is an important pathway for your cell to be able to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to have the energy to perform the various functions

It felt overwhelming to travel to anywhere, given the instability in my vitals, but I knew that if I didn’t change my circumstances, my condition would likely continue to deteriorate.  Two days before my flight, I couldn’t even stand upright.  How in the world was I going to travel?  Would the airline even let me onboard aircraft in this state?

I decided to go to an energy healer, where I actually collapsed in the hallway on my way to her office.  A doctor had to come to help get me to her office.  I couldn’t even get myself onto her table.  Here I was–this heap on her floor.  She decided to use something that looked like a flashlight, which was a biotransducer frequency device made by Dr. Jerry Tennant, a Harvard-trained ophthalmologist who pioneered Lasik surgery, which inadvertently exposed him to three brain viruses that contributed to him getting encephalitis and a bleeding disorder since surgical masks do not prevent viruses from being transmitted to surgeons from the patient. A a result, Dr. Tennant spent the next 7 years sleeping mostly 16 hours per day with severe brain fog and unable to function.  Whenever he had a few lucid moments, he would study, where he was able to integrate knowledge of the acupuncture meridian system developed from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with pH and the voltage of cell membranes.  I was laying on the floor in the office of this energy healer, but within 2 hours of her shining this flashlight through the top of my head, I was able to get up off the floor, stand up straight, and walk out of her office.  From there, I was able to make the flight to Mexico.

Upon landing in Yucatán peninsula of Mexico, I could already feel the difference in my body since there are very special magnetic fields there that were created when a meteor that crashed there a long time ago.  My “prescription” was to stay for at least 2 hours on the beach every single morning at sunrise, where I would be able to ground myself and immerse myself in the water.  To my amazement, within two weeks of traveling to Mexico, I went from literally crawling in my house to being able carry 6-liter bottles of water up the stairs there.  Who would think that simply relocating to an area where the sunlight was stronger would have such a huge impact?  I would remain there for several months where I experienced an incredible and profound healing.

This is what put me on the path to look more deeply into the connections between light and health for the past seven years.  The quality of light that we are under makes a definite difference.  I grew up with incandescent light bulbs, which has a spectrum of colors that is most similar to that of the sun.

Artificial vs. Natural Light

Nowadays, we’re mostly using LED bulbs, which promises greater energy efficiency, but it comes at a cost.  If you look at the color spectrum put out by LED lights, they peak very sharply in the blue wavelength.  This blue frequency, at the wrong time of the day, and especially at night, can be extremely detrimental to your health as it disrupts melatonin production, which is important, not only for sleep, but also for its antioxidant function, which is critically important, especially in chronic health conditions like cancer. This should give you some insight as to why you may feel differently when you’re in different light settings. Given a choice, do you think most people would prefer being in incandescent light or under fluorescent lighting? The answer should be self-evident.

I believe that we were designed to be bathed in direct sunlight daily because not only do our eyes have light receptors, but so does our skin.  There are even light receptors deep within our cells, like our mitochondria, the power engines of our cells. As our society has moved mostly indoors, it’s important to consider how much direct sunlight you’re receiving daily.  Sitting indoors in front of the window doesn’t count, nor does driving in your car because the frequencies from sunlight that are most important for our health—infrared and ultraviolet—are attenuated by the glass, especially if the glass is low-emission.  How much sunlight you need depends on how dark your skin is.  The darker your skin, the more melanin is in your skin, which absorbs light.  This means that you need to spend a longer period of time in the sun in order to absorb enough sunlight to benefit.

My Podcast Interview

To delve more into the fascinating connection between light, biology, and health, I invite you to listen to my podcast interview on the Quantum Biology Collective Podcast.  You can also watch this interview on YouTube.  In this episode, we explore how principles of quantum biology align closely with circadian biology, revealing insights that can transform your understanding of health and wellness.  For the first time, I’ll be sharing some of what I did in the military and how long hours in the laboratory and rooms without windows disrupted my circadian biology, which likely contributed to my getting ovarian cancer back in 2011. Hindsight is 20/20 vision, but when you know better, you do better. Hosea 4:6 states, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”

Steps You Can Take To Optimize Your Health

  • Go to bed earlier in the evening so that you’re able to wake up early enough to go outside for the sunrise. Every hour of sleep before midnight is equivalent to two hours of sleep after midnight, in terms of your body’s ability to repair itself and to have optimal hormone production.
  • Wake up in time to be outside, exposing as much of your skin as possible to the sunlight during sunrise.
  • Be sure to spend some time outside around noon time, when the UV light is strongest as this is the best for being able to make Vitamin D in your body.
  • If you’re able to get outside again before sunset, this is a great way to provide the light signals to let your body know to start winding down.
  • Reduce or eliminate exposure to artificial light and night, especially if you use white LED bulbs. Instead, if you have incandescent, or even halogen, that would be better. You may also want to consider using dimmer lights since the overall light intensity matters. Remember that in nature, after the sun sets, there are no natural sources of light other than the moon, and there are especially no sources of blue light, which is particularly disruptive of melatonin production.

As we embrace the changes that fall brings, let’s commit to discovering what truly contributes to good health and prioritize living in alignment with our natural circadian rhythms to experience greater health, vitality, and improved wellbeing.
