“Our guest Deanna Won is an inspiration for a variety of reasons. Not only is she a former Colonel in the United States Air Force where she served as a physicist for over 26 years. She also endured and thrived through a near death battle with ovarian cancer–a battle she won, thanks to the implementation of an integrative and holistic approach to living that she is now passionate about sharing with others. I am looking forward to hearing more from Deanna Won and her program ‘Keynotes to Life’ in this episode.”  Vice President of Programming JL Haber

What’s Up Next For Deanna?

She is working on a new book entitled “Already Won: From Serving My Country and Overcoming Cancer to Living a Vibrant Life,” which will chronicle her life, time in the military, and talk about her holistic approach to living life.

Brilliant Minds Who Have Influenced Deanna:

Deanna has studied under some of the best health and wellness experts when it comes to addressing the issues that can wreak havoc in the human body. For Immediate Press Release:

The Peer Reviewed Ovarian Cancer Research Program consumer advocate Colonel Deanna Won, USAF (Ret), recently participated in the evaluation of research applications submitted to the Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) sponsored by the Department of Defense.  Deanna Won, a physicist turned holistic health coach who helps people with cancer, was nominated for participation in the program by the Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Coalition, also known as Rhonda’s Club in Washington, D.C.  As a consumer reviewer, she was a full voting member, along with other scientists and physicians, at meetings to help determine how the $20M appropriated by Congress for Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) will be spent on future OCRP research.

Consumer reviewers are asked to represent the collective view of individuals with ovarian cancer and patients, family members, and women at risk for the disease when they prepare comments on the impact of the research on issues such as prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life after treatment. Commenting on serving as a consumer reviewer, Deanna said that this is tremendously meaningful work done within the DoD research community to impact the lives of so many women affected by this condition.”

Consumer advocates and scientists have worked together in this unique partnership to evaluate the scientific merit of ovarian cancer research applications since 1997. Colonel Wanda L. Salzer, M.D., Director of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, expressed her appreciation for the perspectives of the consumer advocates in the scientific review sessions. “The Consumer Reviewers on each panel are instrumental in helping the scientists understand the patient’s perspective and provide valuable insight into the potential impact of the proposed project.  They bring with them a sense of urgency and remind all of the human element involved in medical research.”

Scientists applying propose to conduct innovative ovarian cancer research aimed at eliminating ovarian cancer and improving the lives of those affected. The OCRP fills important gaps not addressed by other funding agencies by supporting groundbreaking, high-risk, high-gain research while encouraging out-of-the-box thinking.
